Donating, preservation efforts, house, pets, good food, knowledge, etc, all of that is happiness and none of it can be achieved without money.

February 23, 2021 - 9:27 amI once worked as a supply teacher. The pay was average but it was done by day, and sometimes it was fun but most of the time it felt like a direct swap of time for money. I saved SO much money in that time because I was just so aware of what the price of something really meant – e.g. a takeaway on average was the equivalent of an hour of dealing with kids. Would I deal with kids for another hour in order to have a takeaway? Nope.

Your Lord has already explained how to live life. Your learning so much from various authors and books. All these concepts are already there in our Quran and Sunnah. February 23, 2021 - 9:27 amThe point about spending money to impress peers is so true. I have been working from home since March 2020 and I have spent way less money on clothes than I usually would. It's as much to do with no feeling that I have to 'dress up' for work and wear something different every day as it is to do with not being influenced by what my colleagues are wearing. Just seeing heads on screen certainly helps with shoe envy!

When I decided to buy a new caravan one of the things i did was in a spreadsheet calculate the amount of time I would have to be in work in my life in order to buy what I wanted. First of all I would highly debate the claim defining ourselfs through work is a new developement. Look at the surnames smith, miller, baker ect. where do you think they come from?
Even in the animal kingdom the main activity of a majority of species is gathering ressources to either a) sustain themselfs or their offspring or b) impress a mating partner.
So I think to struggle for material success is built in us as a corecomponent.
To be able to even think about whether we should be working less to gain more happieness is a luxury only the wealthiest percentage of human population have.
The average human being has to absolutely work his a55 off to stay afloat.
What percentage of human population earns 75k a year?
I am working a proper job in a middle european country and I make half. I dare not think about how many people in Africa or Asia even come close to this.
That take on money is for the richest I guess.

Nowit is earning a dying.
2.what is enough?
At a certain point more money doesnt lead to more happiness and that enough is around 75 USD/year.
3.money=life energy
Life energy= time plus energy
When your buying something see the cost in terms of life energy. One thing that is worth life energy is investing in ourselves.
4.three key wuestions about life energy
1)did i receive fulfillment and satisfaction and value in proportion to the life energy spent.
2)is this expenditure of life energy in alignment with my values and life purpose.
3.) How might this expenditure change if i didnt have to work for money.
