Hello. I've got a lot of past content for a "compendium" series. I was thinking 2 ebooks, but don't know the limits (unlike a novel or a nonfiction book with 100 pages). What is the size of a "normal" ebook? Should I settle for the 2 massive ebooks or go with an (12 years of content) annual series?

hay Dale love your videos, I personally am a semi self-publisher, In that, I get professional help with editing and design of my book which I feel has paid off though my book is not out yet. What I have done was to get a webpage for promotions and so people can sign up to a mailing list, I have also thanks to a friend getting to promote my book on twitch which basically gave me a free five hours to personally basically sale my book to people on the channel he has. Which turned out amazingly great. But I am going all out on mine with hardback, softback digital, and looking to move to audio asap. I found that if you just publish a book and do nothing it wont sale, But if you promote it the more you do the more money you can make off it. I am also doing posters and promotions that go with my book as well to help generate more interest in the book before it comes out.

I have a dozen books on Amazon. Not all that long ago, I was making many thousands a month on my books. My income is now in the low hundreds per month. Same books. Same hundreds of good reviews. Now, a lot less income. At my age, I have more savings than I will ever need, even if I bought a new truck every year. But I would like to leave more behind for my family. I do not know if Amazon is screwing authors, or if it is something else going on. I do know there is zero logic to my book income going from many thousands a month, to a few hundred.

On KDP you get no buyer data, much less an email address for the buyer. If I shipped books published elsewhere to Amazon I would get buyer name & address but no email. With KDP I get zero. Is there a way to "data mine" buyer info using KDP? I published only one 2019 KDP book as Kindle eBook and paperback. Next step is audiobook. Yet I expected much better sales. I am the only single author to write a book about a very popular deceased humorist. Of the 25 books he authored, 20 were NYT best sellers. Dale, thank you for excellent no nonsense content!

Dale you always give fantastic advice!! I've published 2 books 2 years ago I walked away for awhile because I got involved in other things, but I's still earning money on those two books 2 1/2 years later. So, anyone reading this Dale is not lying what he say's the the gospel truth if you publish good content and structure the cost correctly you will continue making money with it many years after you publish it. Just think as your publishing new material you are still making money on the residuals of what you already published and that is compounding, but like he say's just don't give up because there is a light at the end of the tunnel even if it's only a spark it can grow.

why is the video muted at 8.35 mts to 8.55 mts, there is something you say about the print publishing, if that info is missing it does leave a gap in having all the information from the video, i tried to replay the video thinking it was an issue with the connection and it turns out the muting of the voice is from the recording end.. any reason you could help? may be you could get your watcher/listeners know what it is one missed by replying in the comment..

Hi Dale. Love the video as usual. Great stuff. Can I make a suggestion? Can you put the social media links that are on the side in a different colour? The dark blue makes it hard to read, at least it does for me. Maybe if you put them in a bright red or something but the dark blue on a black ground makes it hard to read. Well, that's just my opinion. Others may feel differently.

I never expected to make much as an author of interactive fiction, though my trouble is actually my location. As I live in NZ, publishing through KDP means I can only be paid via wire transfer, and I won't receive anything until you meet the wire threshold *per marketplace*. So I need to earn US$100 (or 100 pounds for the UK) in royalties in a specific Amazon marketplace before I will be wired any royalties at all from that marketplace. I've made a few sales over the past months, but because they are split among several marketplaces I've never actually been paid a single cent in royalties in 2019. One day, perhaps!

Do we consider self-published authors someone who just publishes one book and count their earnings? Or do we only count the authors who are constantly putting out new products? Seems to me the authors that succeed are the authors with a lot of books.

Hey dale, I have several question
    1. Copyrights is a must prior to publishing
    2. Shall I buy my own ISBN if Amazon provides one?
    3. Must I set up an business account for my books earnings or I do just set up a separate savings so to speak?

    Thank you

Hey Dale! I'm from India. Today, India market is not allowed to publish ACX audio book on Amazon. It says "ACX is currently open to residents of US, UK, Canada and Ireland. We hope to open up to a wider global audience in the future." Even I am highly interested in audio books. But this sucks.

I always feel disappointed when a survey doesn't use a representative sample size. I especially don't like how people lie, mislead or leave out pertinent information like survey size, location of surveyed population, demographics, etc. I just started writing and am not discouraged by the possibility of not making money, but I can see how people would be discouraged if they don't understand how to interpret survey data. Good video and channel, keep it up.
